Harvard University
Dr. Laurie Glimcher, a leading expert in immunology, is the Irene Heinz Given Professor of Immunology at the Harvard School of Public Health and a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. Her laboratory explores the molecular pathways regulating the development and activation of particular components of the immune system known as T helper cells that express the surface protein CD4. The complex regulatory pathways governing these cells’ responses are critical for the development of protective immunity and for the pathophysiologic immune responses underlying autoimmune diseases. Dr. Glimcher, a Harvard Medical School graduate, is board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology and a senior rheumatologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Her other honors include the FASEB Excellence in Science Award, the American Society for Clinical Investigation’s Stanley J. Korsmeyer Award, and the American College of Rheumatology Distinguished Investigator Award. She is a former president of the American Association of Immunologists.
Dr. Glimcher's lecture will take place in Auditorium 7 at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12.
